Belated One Month

Emma has already passed the 6 week milestone so clearly I'm a little late commenting on her at one month. But, alas, that is what I must do.

I can't remember who recommended these Picky Sticky stickers from Etsy that go on onesies. Was it Sam and Anna's mamma? THANK YOU to whomever it was. They are super cute.

I had my 6 week check-up yesterday and am cleared for all activity. I went for my first run yesterday post-baby. Boy, I ached in areas I never knew I had - guess bones get moved all around. I have a 1/2 marathon in September and the Army 10-Miler in October, so I better get over it fast! Running used to be fun to me...yesterday, it was just a pain in the...well, I'll spare you the details.

And, P.S., it is almost 10am right now and Emma is still asleep from her last feeding at 4:30am. Good girl :) But, I'll admit, she's in the carseat. Please don't tell anyone!

  2. So cute! Glad K's not the only slim baby out there, though Emma's getting some nice cheeks.

  3. running will be enjoyable again once you get back into pre-baby shape. it's so funny that emma likes to sleep in her carseat, louise hates hers! i'm surprised she won't sleep in a swing or bouncy chair, they seam sort of similar to carseats in the way that they sort of cradle the baby.

  4. Glad to know that sweet Emma is doing well and that you are, too. Way to go getting back out there even though it was hard!

  5. You are welcome. :) I love the picky stickies too... and I'm actually excited to use the 2 month ones in a few days. Emma's cheeks are so cute- she's going to have such a great social smile, I can tell!

Here's the key I learned to help teach them how to self-soothe and put themselves to sleep: give them opportunities to try! We used to work so hard at getting them to sleep and trying to lay them down still asleep and sometimes it would take a while. But I read that actually is counterproductive, because it teaches a baby that they need you to fall asleep. Don't get me wrong- we don't cry it out, but we make sure they are awake when we lay them down (if they aren't, we jostle them a little or talk to them to get them to open their eyes then walk away. If they fuss, we touch them, replace a pacifier, or "shh" until they stop and then walk away and now they can put themselves to sleep with only 0-1 small fuss, max 10 minutes of drowsy time for every sleep time. It is great compared to what we used to do! The other key is to make sure they aren't overtired too...
